How to turn existing clips into TikTok videos
A long recording can contain several short ideas. Pick one complete moment per clip and edit it so it makes sense on its own, rather than simply chopping a video at an arbitrary duration.
The short version
Make a new vertical edit around one point, then check the opening, captions, sound, and safe areas.
Step by step
1. Choose a moment with its own payoff. Look for a useful answer, demonstration, reaction, or turning point. Keep enough context that a new viewer can understand what is happening.
2. Reframe for a phone screen. Create a vertical version when possible and keep important faces, text, and objects away from interface controls. Review the crop instead of trusting automatic reframing.
3. Start with the point. Use the first seconds to state the question, show the result, or create a reason to keep watching. Remove setup that does not help the viewer.
4. Add readable context. Use captions for speech and a short on-screen label when it clarifies the clip. Check that text remains legible and does not cover the main action.
5. Review rights and destination rules. Confirm you have permission to reuse the footage and music. Sound availability and commercial-use rules can differ by account, region, and post type.
Before you publish
- Keep a clean master clip before adding platform-specific text or music.
- Export and watch the complete video on a phone-sized preview.
- Use TikTok Creative Center for current inspiration; examples are not a guarantee of results.
